What Can I Expect

Perfect for beginners! Spend a day with David and his busy bees.

With a mixture of talks and hands-on sessions, you’ll learn everything there is to know about starting out in beekeeping. The programme is split into several different sections so you’re not bombarded with too much bee talk at once. There are refreshments on hand and a light lunch with snacks. In essence, this is a fun and interactive, yet laid-back look at beekeeping.

Starting with the bee basics, you’ll hear about bee biology, how colonies work, and communicate (truly fascinating stuff!) and their life cycle. Then it’s time to take a look at the life of a beekeeper. You’ll be shown what looking after bees entails, what types of hives there are and how you harvest honey. You will also discover how honey is made and how important pollination is.

Indeed, this Sheffield beekeeping workshop goes one step further, by showing you just which flowers and plants you should grow to attract your bees, And of course, on a warm summer’s day you’ll see the bees flying from their hive to bring back pollen and nectar. It’s honey making happening live in front of your eyes!

Dressed up in your beekeeper suit, you’ll also get to see what goes on inside the busy hive, as these full-day workshops include plenty of interaction with the bees. You’ll be shown how to lift the lids and how to spot the queen bee.

There will also be time to taste the honey produced by Davids bees. and it is quite simply delicious. David will tell you why and how different types of honey exist!

Book your place on these one-day beekeeping courses in Sheffield and spend a lovely day with David and his many thousands of bees. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and a pair of wellies or sturdy boots!

More Bees Please

We are a family run beekeeping business based in Sheffield & Rotherham.  We are passionate about bees and the amazing effect they have on the environment.  We are expanding our Beekeeping to try and improve the quality of Bees in the local area, and also the number of pollinators in the local vicinity.  We have set up our own breeding program to improve the quality and disease resistant strain of bees.

We have over 300 hives in South Yorkshire & Derbyshire. We are ethical beekeepers, and look after our bees well. During the winter months, we ensure that the bees have enough honey stores to survive the winter, without feeding sugar syrup. We are putting the bees before any profit, unlike most large bee farming companies.

We also aim to introduce Hives to as many schools, raise awareness with children and hopefully find Beekeepers of tomorrow.  Also check out our "More Bees Please" page for more information about our plan to spread hives around Yorkshire with the help of as many businesses as possible.

Our Honey is unpasteurised and filtered to the absolute minimum, to ensure you get the natural Honey how the bees intended.  This is something that you don't get from shop bought Honey.  We also sell other natural products from the hive, including Cut Comb Honey, Creamed Honey, Beeswax Polishes and a full range of Beauty & Pet Products.

A perfect gift for someone. This can be carried over to next year.
